WELCOME TO PLANT BASED ECONOMICS.

The goal, at PBE, is to better link the inputs, outputs and impacts of food production and to advocate for and promote policies that encourage greater shifts to plant-based diets.

If you’re vegan or plant-based, there’s a good chance you’ve wondered: what would happen if everyone else followed suit?

That is the driving question we look at, from a research lens, for Canada. What would happen in Canada if everyone followed a whole-food, plant-based diet? What would the impacts of shifts to such plant-based diets be on food production, health care, the environment and trade?

What is PBE?

Simply the study and integration of health, nutrition, behavioural and agricultural economics, market research and policy from a plant-based lens.

Why is PBE important?

I. Link WFPB food consumption to healthcare savings (and ultimately food production)

II. Address current gaps of analysis between food production, consumption and health

III. Help manage shocks & adjustments for those transitioning out of animal agriculture

IV. Advocate for a range of policy tools to improve outcomes and welfare for us all

This is just the beginning.
